Recordings and streams no longer lose short pieces of microphone audio, a problem since 0.9.103 that was worst with USB microphones such as the Shure MV7+.
Microphone dropouts fixed
- Microphone audio no longer drops out in recordings and streams; the gaps that crept in with 0.9.103 are gone.
- USB microphones that deliver audio in small pieces, such as the Shure MV7+, now get the same headroom as the built-in microphone.
- When microphone audio is ever lost, the session log now says how much and why.
Since 0.9.103, a recording or stream could lose short pieces of microphone audio: tiny gaps that sounded like clicks or a crackle, several times a second on a bad take. Microphones that hand audio to the Mac in small pieces, such as the Shure MV7+ over USB, were hit hardest, and the built-in microphone could be affected under load. The microphone itself was never at fault.
This build gives microphone audio a full second of headroom on its way into the recording, keeps listening to the microphone even while the file writer is briefly held up, and no longer starves the encoder's audio queue. Every microphone gets the same headroom no matter how it delivers audio.
If Videorc ever does lose microphone audio, the session log now records how much was lost and why, so the cause can be found instead of guessed.
